The College’s 1st XI boys’ football team have secured their place in the Independent Schools Football Association Bowl Competition semi-final after their victory against Lingfield School on Tuesday 21 January.
The team soaked up some early pressure against a talented Lingfield side who had a couple of academy players in their line up, and began to adapt to their fluid shape. Our pupils then started to combine well in midfield and carved out a couple of chances, with Daniel B and Jake B unlucky to not be on the score sheet.
The game was finely poised as the teams headed into half time at 0-0.
The College’s 1st XI started the second half brilliantly and were unlucky not to score from the kick off. As they began to get more of a foothold in the game, two sharp finishes from Jake B put them into a commanding position.
The team once again soaked up some pressure and looked in control until they conceded a penalty with just five minutes remaining, which the Lingfield striker dispatched. Cue a nervy final couple of minutes with some last gasp defending from Nathan L, Felix R-D, and some heroics from Ollie T in goal, bringing the final score to 2-1 to the College.
The team now await the draw for their semi-final match, for which the College wishes the team the best of luck.
