On Monday 3 February, our U14A girls’ hockey team experienced a memorable and exceptional day at the Tier 2 National Hockey Finals in Nottingham, proudly returning with a bronze medal finish.

The group stages began with a challenging encounter against a well-drilled Goldophin and Latymer School team, and although our U14s initially took time to settle into the match, they grew into it with confidence. Just before halftime, they were awarded a short corner, and Jemima T capitalised, slotting the ball into the bottom corner to give the College a 1-0 lead. The girls held firm in the second half to secure a vital 3 points from their opening match.

In their second match, the College faced a talented and skillful Kings’ School Winchester. Despite an early 1-0 lead from a well-executed goal by Alex H-M, Kings’ School responded in the second half with two clinical individual goals, leaving the College on the back foot. Unfortunately, the team was unable to gain any points from this match.

With qualification for the bronze medal match on the line, our U14s delivered an outstanding performance in their final group stage match, coming out with relentless energy. Jemima T scored a remarkable three short corners within the first 10 minutes, creating multiple opportunities throughout. Ava I-W was instrumental in linking up play, assisting Sophia V with two well-taken goals in the second half. The girls played some of their best hockey to date, earning a spot in the bronze medal match against Ampleforth College.

The final match saw the College in scintillating form. Jemima T added to her tally with an early goal, and Sophia V completed a superb hat-trick, scoring three well-placed goals. Chloe R rounded off the scoring, and the game finished with a commanding 5-0 victory, securing the bronze medal for Bishop’s Stortford College.

Throughout the day, all 15 girls displayed exceptional sportsmanship and commitment, both on and off the pitch. Their dedication and teamwork were truly commendable, and they represented the College with pride, playing some of the finest hockey of the season.

Congratulations to the team!
