On Monday 10 February we delightedly welcomed writer, journalist, and disability advocate, Lucy Webster, to our campus as a guest speaker at our 2025 Festival of Literature.

Running from Monday 10 February to Friday 14 February 2025, the Festival of Literature aims to inspire children from the College, and other local primary schools, with the written and spoken word, with speakers including well-known authors, illustrators, poets and more.

Lucy joined Senior School pupils during the day, leading discussions on disability and inclusion, before taking centre stage in the evening for a free community event, for ages 14+. Throughout her talk, Lucy shared insight into the reality of not only living with a disability but specifically being a woman living with a disability. Discussing her first book and memoir, The View From Down Here, Lucy spoke of the challenges she faced growing up as well as the ones which still face her today with wit.

Having written articles regarding disability issues for leading publications including The Guardian, Financial Times, and The Times newspapers, Lucy went on to highlight the importance of looking for light in these situations, and the value of community and its role in shaping people’s attitudes towards ableism and sexism.

The College would like to thank Lucy for an inspiring and thought-provoking evening.
